Congratulations and make a fortune!

From the team at Osseo Group we want to say 恭喜發財! or for those of us that don't speak Mandarin "gong-sshee faa-tseye" (phonetically), which means "congratulations and make a fortune!"

During normal times, the world’s largest human migration would take place as hundreds of millions of people make their way home to celebrate the beginning of the new year with family.

Things have looked a little different these past 2 years, because of the ongoing pandemic. Nonetheless, we're going to continue celebrating!

What is the festival all about?

Chinese New Year is a centuries-old festival. The holiday was born out the myth of Nian (also the Chinese word for “year”), a scary and angry beast that would appear every New Year’s Eve and attack villagers.

Legend has it that to scare away the beast, the villagers would put up red banners, light lanterns, set off firecrackers, and bang drums.

Traditions vary across communities, but most celebrations involve fireworks, family reunions, feasts, and paying respects to one’s ancestors. The New Year is also a chance to prepare for good fortune and luck in the coming year.

Each year of the Chinese calendar is assigned an animal of the zodiac, running in a 12-year cycle. This year runs from February 1 - January 21, 2023.

Years of the Tiger include 2022, 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950, 1938.….

The Tiger is known as the king of all beasts in China

The zodiac sign Tiger is a symbol of strength, exorcising evils, and braveness.

This year the Ox and Goat are the luckiest zodiac signs – but for those born in the years of the Rat, Snake, Monkey, Pig and Dog, sorry, but you'll need to make a lot more effort this year.

Rabbit, Dragon, Horse, and Rooster people are destined to enjoy a smooth life and good luck in making money this year, which is quite nice.

As always, wearing red will bring good luck in a birth sign year.
